Move to install Bhupenda�s statue in Arunachal

GUWAHATI, Jan 29 - In a rare gesture of goodwill, the Research Department of Arunachal Pradesh is initiating a project to install a statue of legendary musician Late Dr Bhupen Hazarika at his birthplace Bolung Village in Lower Dibang valley district of Arunachal Pradesh.

Informing this, Une Pertin of Arunachal Front said in a statement mailed to this newspaper today that this is an endeavour to make the birthplace of the maestro memorable. The statue would be installed at a suitable site of the village under the supervision of the Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS).

A team comprising APLS president YD Thongchi, Secretary Research Department Dani Sulu, representative of Bhupen Hazarika Trust, general secretary-cum-Director Research Department Batem Pertin, former APLS general secretary-cum- Director Trade and Commerce and an offspring of Late Gora Pertin, the legislator and personal friend of the Late maestro, will be visiting the village on January 31, 2016 for site inspection.

The proposal to install a statue of the Late maestro on the soil of Arunachal Pradesh was mooted by former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki in recognition to the contributions made by the master musician towards the art and culture of Arunachal Pradesh, said Une Pertin.
