Move to highlight foreign policy issues among masses

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 14 - As part of its recently launched programme to make the people of the country aware about the foreign policy measures and issues, the Ministry of External Affairs will hold a one-day seminar in Guwahati in the second week of July.

This programme will be for media houses and journalists from across the North East and will be undertaken as part of the new Videsh Aaya Pradesh ke Dwaar initiative of the Ministry of External Affairs.

The ministry is also planning to invite academicians and domain experts for the event.

Briefing the media here today, Pawan Kumar Badhe, Under Secretary (Press Relations) at the External Publicity & Public Diplomacy Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, said that common people are generally not aware of the foreign policy initiatives taken by the government as well as foreign policy issues affecting the country.

With a view to changing this situation and giving regular update about foreign policy issues at the local level, our ministry recently launched the Videsh Aaya Pradesh ke Dwaar initiative. The first edition of the programme was held in March in Hyderabad, including for the local Telugu and Urdu media. Now we will hold the second edition in Guwahati next month for the media from the north-eastern states, Badhe said.

He said that North East is integral to the governments Act East Policy and so the need to engage with the media as well as the local people of the North East with regard to Indias foreign policy issues is of utmost importance.

The objective of this initiative is to make the local people at the grassroots level aware of our foreign policy. Through the interaction with the local media, we are trying to communicate the foreign policy priorities in simple terms, Badhe said.

Naorem J Singh, Regional Passport Officer, said, It is a privilege and honour for us to organise this initiative of the Videsh Aaya Pradesh ke Dwaar by the Ministry of External Affairs in Guwahati.
