Move to free wetlands of encroachment

GUWAHATI, March 12 � In an effort to address the problem of artificial flooding in the capital city and enhance its beauty, the district administration has decided to act strongly against encroachment on wetlands.

The Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro) Ashutosh Agnihotri has already ordered eviction at Sarusola Beel. It needs to be mentioned here that on eviction the started at Sarusaola Beel drive was January 18 and is presently continuing. According to official sources, the Sarusola Beel will be freed of encroachment by March 25.

�We have already completed the demarcation of boundary at Sarusola Beel,� said the official, adding that the district administration has received the support of the public in this regard. The district administration is also going to issue notices to 7 buildings at Sarusola.

On the other hand, the district administration has also initiated steps to clear encroachment at Borsola, Deepor Beel, Bondajan, etc.
