GUWAHATI, July 28 � The National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) has undertaken an effort to correct the dam structure of the 2000-MW Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Power Project (LSHEP), said a July 25, 2013 report of the www,energylineindia.com.�

The power sector news portal has said in the report that the NHPC has claimed to have been doing the needful in respect to the demand for a comprehensive study of entire Brahmaputra Basin raised by the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS).

It intends to affect changes in the design of the dam. This will influence the Project�s construction schedule. Revised construction schedule is under process and shall be firmed up by August 13, the report said.

This was preceded by the revalidation of the site specific seismic design parameters by the National Committee of Seismic Design Parameters (NCSDP) in a meeting held on March 15 last. The Dam Design Review Panel (DDRP) recommended modifications in Energy Dissipation Arrangement (EDA) and the cut-off wall. It proposed a cut-off wall in the downstream of the Dam also.

The NHPC has told the Ministry of Power (MoP) that the DDRP recommendations may be accepted to end the stalemate. The Power Ministry said in reply that the DDRP report was accepted by the competent authority and decided that the power company may take the project forward according to the DDRP suggestions.

Concerning the downstream area protection measures, the NHPC has started the process and consultancy work for river protection has been awarded to the IIT Roorkee. IIT Roorkee has prepared a report on the geo-morphological changes in the Subansiri course basing on satellite imagery. It was submitted on May 25 last and the final report is expected soon, said the energylineindia report.
