TINSUKIA, June 20 � Two scientists from Tinsukia, in association with the Higher Education Development Forum have taken up the initiative to set up a higher science and technology educational institution here. In a press meet held at the Press Club recently, Dr Mukut Gohain, who is working in Madrid, Spain stressed the necessity of a higher educational institute for homogeneous development along with the rest of the country.
Although Tinsukia has become a business hub, it has still remained underdeveloped in the educational sector, he added. In order to motivate students towards basis science and higher education, it is necessary to establish an educational institution at Tinsukia for higher studies.
Another scientist present in the press meet, Dr Arindam Adhikari, who is working in the Institute for Surface Chemistry, Stockholm, Sweden questioned as to why despite having abundant resources in the area, Tinsukia still lacks of higher educational institution like a university or scientific research organisation. At the same time, he mentioned the possibility of establishing an Indian Institute of Science Education Research (IISER), Central university, Centre for Materials for Electronic Technology, Central institute of plastic engineering technology or herbal research development institute at Tinsukia. He also informed that an appeal had been made to the State and Central government in this regard. It needs to be mentioned here that an organisation named Higher Education Development Forum was formed at Bandusha Bhawan recently in the presence of various students� organisations including All Assam Moran Students� Union and All Assam Muttock Yuba Chatra Sanmilan. An executive body was formed with the two scientists as advisers, Paramananda Borgohain, as president and Bhulen Baruah as secretary.
