Mourning over Bhupenda�s death continues

GUWAHATI, Nov 10 � Condolence messages continue to pour in from various quarters of the society on the death of music doyen Dr Bhupen Hazarika whose last rites were performed on Wednesday.

The State Bank of India Officers� Association mourned the artiste�s death stating that the nation has lost the cultural legend of modern times.

�Dr Hazarika�s contribution and services towards the social life of Assam will always be remembered,� a statement from the association said.

The Sati Jaimiti Smriti Trust Society, in their condolence message, stated that the maestro's death has left, a void which could never be filled.

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) while offering condolences at the demise of the Dada Saheb Phalke Award winner said, �Dr Hazarika used to encourage Srila Prabhupada�s mission and our activities on many occasions and most importantly, he rendered one of our most important prayers from Bengali into Assamese only within minutes.�

�Such spontaneous and instant translation truly proves his extraordinary over Assamese language and culture,� the ISKCON stated.

The ISKCON, on the occasion of Rasa Purnima today, are offering the entire ceremony to the departed soul.

The Lions Club of Narangi also condoled the death of the legendary musician.

The Indian Peoples Theatre Association, Guwahati branch, has decided to organise a Shradhanjali programme in front of its office located at Ananda Ram Baruah Path in Panbazar on November 13 around 5.30 pm.

Renowned artistes of the State will offer their tributes to the legendary artiste.

The Kolkata Assam Socio Literary Club, Government Pensioners� Association, Assam, Kirtan Kala Kendra, Gauhati Music College and Assam College Teachers� Association have also expressed grief at the demise of Dr Hazarika.

Moreover, the NE chapter of the Forum for Integrated National Security organised a meeting on its office premises today to mourn the death of Dr Hazarika.

Among others who condoled the death of the legend included Srimanta Sankar Kristi Bikash Samiti, Retired Forest Officers� Association, Assam, Board of Secondary Education, Assam, All Assam Bonders and Manufacturers� Association and the All Assam New Writers and Artists Association.
