BONGAIGAON, July 6 - Irate mob ransacked the health centre at Santipur in Chirang district today after a nurse allegedly snapped the head and body of a new born baby while she was helping the mother in her delivery. Later the mother also died.
The deceased Purnima Sutradhar (19), resident of No.2 Aiepowali, was admitted to the health centre at Santipur this morning after she felt labour pain.
She was brought to the health centre by an ambulance which had reached Aiepowali late despite repeated calling since 3 am today by her husband Baburam Ray (25).
On reaching the health centre nurse Sabita Moran got ready to help Purnima in her delivery charging Rs 2000. The doctor Fulbar Ali Ahmed was in leave for Eid festival. So, a helpless Baburam, who is a wage earner, had agreed to pay the amount to the nurse considering the critical state of his wife. Soon after the nurse handled the delivery she allegedly finished the lives of the mother and the baby.
Later, police rescued the nurse and sent Purnima�s body for post mortem at Civil hospital, Kajalgaon, Chirang district head quarters.
