Mother and Childcare Hospital inaugurated

DIBRUGARH, Sept 22 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated a Mother & Childcare Hospital at the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) here on Sunday and also laid the foundation stone of a newly-established Government Dental College within the campus.

The inaugural ceremony was organised at the Dr John Berry White Auditorium of the premier medical college.

The Chief Minister was flanked by Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Dibrugarh MP Rameshwar Teli and MLAs of the region. The Chief Minister in his speech asked the medical fraternity and the students to make the medical institute one of the cleanest and most sought-after hospital in South East Asia.

�If everyone joins hands, then we can hope to make the region a global destination for medical tourism,� observed Sonowal.

Prior to this event, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation for reconstruction of National Highway-37 from 583.620 km to 603.160 km (Borborooah to Chaulkhowa) at Chaulkhowa. If Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma is to be believed, the road stretch will be ready by March 31, 2019.

The Mother and Childcare Hospital is a state-of-the-art building with 300 beds. It is fitted with all modern equipment and support structures. The Dental College which commenced its BDS course on September 4, will be built in an area of 1,90,800 square feet. The college will also have separate hostel for boys and girls, besides quarters of teaching and non-teaching staff along with a cafeteria. There will also be provision for OPD at the college. The entire infrastructure will be built in 18 months, said the Health Minister.
