Most wanted bike lifter held in Mangaldai

By Correspondent

MANGALDAI, Dec 16 - Under tremendous criticism after its alleged failure of checking the rising cases of bike lifting in and around Mangaldai town in recent times, Darrang police has managed to salvage some pride today by arresting the most wanted car and bike lifter Bipul Sarma alias Bipul Bhatta from a hideout in Balipota under Mangaldai Sadar police station.

Police also recovered many tools suspected to be used in bike lifting, but failed to recover any stolen bike. Police reportedly identified Bipul, who had been in jail custody earlier on several occasions, as one of the masterminds of the recent bike lifting cases and was on the lookout for him.

It may mentioned here that the tally of bike lifting cases in the district in about last one month has gone up to seven as one more bike (AS13D7267), owned by one Kon Deka of Bhebarghat, was stolen on Tuesday afternoon. Prior to this on December 4, one motorcycle (AS13A9880) was stolen from the campus of the Assam Gramin Vikas Bank, Mangaldai branch at Tengabari. Similarly, in between November 12 and November 30 at least four more bike lifting cases were reported from various parts of greater Mangaldai, including LNB Road, Sankar Nagar, Upahupara, etc.

These rising cases of bike lifting had left bike owners here to pass sleepless nights and the role of police had come under strong public criticism.
