Mortal remains of Archbishop to reach Guwahati tomorrow

SHILLONG, Oct 18 - The mortal remains of Archbishop Dominic Jala, who passed away in a tragic road mishap in the United States recently, will arrive at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati on Sunday next.

The mortal remains are being flown in from the United States after completion of the necessary procedures followed in such accident cases, and embalming.

Archbishop Jala and another priest died on the spot in a car accident on October 11 at Colussa County in the United States. Another priest was also injured.

Jala was born at Mawlai in the Archdiocese of Shillong in 1951. He was appointed the Archbishop of the same diocese in December, 1999.

Archbishop Jala�s mortal remains will be taken to the Guwahati Provincial House, where the faithful would offer homage to the departed soul. He had served at the Provincial House earlier.

Thereafter, the mortal remains will be taken to Byrnihat, Nongpoh and Umsning in Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya, and subsequently to the Mawlai Parish. At the Mawlai Parish, a Holy Mass will be conducted.

Later, the mortal remains will be kept at his parental home in Mawlai, Phudmuri, for the night.

From Monday till the funeral on Wednesday, the mortal remains will be kept in the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, Laitumkhrah. The Archbishopwill be laid to rest in a grave close to the cathedral.
