Morigaon district jail gets a library

MORIGAON, Aug 13 - For the first time, the District Legal Service Authority (DLSA), Morigaon has set up a library inside the Morigaon district jail for its inmates.

Mahmood Ahmed, District & Sessions Judge, Morigaon formally inaugurated the Morigaon District Jail Library on August 10 amidst a huge gathering. Inaugurating the library, Ahmed said that for the mental reform of the convicts, there was a need to open a library in Morigaon Jail and with generous help from the district police and other individuals, the library was opened with several hundred valuable books.

Addressing the gathering, NF Ahmed, CEO, Morigaon Zila Parishad, said that for the all round development of the jail inmates, Morigaon Zila Parishad had extended infrastructural help to the jail library. In the function, RK Handique, Additional SP, Morigaon, Jayanta Bora, Circle Officer, Morigaon, Tarun Talukdar, retired Principal of Jagi HS School also spoke and hoped that the new library will help the literate convicts to exercise their intellectual qualities.

Ranjita Agarwal, Secretary, DLSA, Morigaon while speaking on the occasion dwelt at length about the efforts of DLSA, Morigaon to open the District Jail Library for the reformative approach of Judiciary towards the convicted inmates of Morigaon Jail. In the function, many inmates of Morigaon district Jail presented cultural items like songs, recitation of poems etc.
