Morigaon DC apprises parties about revised schedule

MORIGAON, March 10 - The Deputy Commissioner of Morigaon Rakesh Kumar in a meeting held with the representatives of various political parties at the Conference Hall of his office chamber today apprised about the revised schedule for the second phase of election to the Assam Legislative Assembly, 2016. This was stated in an official press release.

As per the revised schedule issued by the Election Commission of India (vide a Press note on March 9), the date of notification has been fixed on March 15, instead of March 14. Likewise, instead of March 21, the last date of making nominations is on March 22. Further, on March 24, the nomination papers will be scrutinised instead of March 22 as notified earlier.

It may be mentioned that the remaining stages of election process i.e. the last date of withdrawal of nominations, date of poll, date of counting and date before which the election shall be completed remain unchanged. Therefore, March 26 is the last date of withdrawal of nominations; date of poll is on April 11; the date of counting is on May 19 and May 21 is the date before which the election should be completed.

The Deputy Commissioner stated that the Election Commission of India has rescheduled the second phase of election in view of the biennial election to the Council of States.

It may be mentioned that election in respect of the three Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LACs) under Morigaon election district, namely 79 Jagiroad, 80 Morigaon and 81 Laharighat will be held in the second phase.
