MORIGAON, April 9 - Morigaon annexed the 6th Sandhya Saha Memorial Senior Inter-District Hockey Championship title defeating Naharkatia 2-1 in an exciting final match at the Khirode Boruah Stadium here today. Monisha Bordoloi of Morigaon scored the first goal early in the 2nd minute while Martina Jasim of Naharkatia equalised in the 11th minute. But Mitali Gohain again restored the lead in the 19th minute.

Monisha Bordoloi of Morigaon was adjudged the best player of the match while Bhumani Topno was declared the player of the tournament. On the other hand Sobikul Nehar of Nagaon team got the promising player trophy.

Earlier in the semifinals, Morigaon got the better of Nagaon 7-0 while Naharkatia beat Makum 6-0. Makum defeated Nagaon 3-1 to occupy the third position.

Monoj Saikia, chairman, Assam Livestock Planning Corporation (ALPCO) handed over the trophy to the winners while Shyam Das, chairman, Morigaon Zila Parishad gave the runners-up trophy. Senior sports journalist Subodh Malla Barua handed over the 3rd position trophy.
