GUWAHATI, Sept 14 - Assam Police has received specific intelligence inputs about three to four more youths from the State joining Islamic fundamentalist outfits in the recent times, even as another suspected Hijbul Mujahideen operative was arrested from Hojai today.
Top Assam Police sources told The Assam Tribune that there are specific inputs about some youths joining and getting trained by the militant groups and efforts have been initiated to nab them.
These youths hail from different districts of the State and had also undergone training by the Islamic fundamentalist groups, a top Assam Police official said, adding, We are closely monitoring the movement of these youths with the help of our counterparts in other States.
We cannot share any other details about their whereabouts at this point of time. But these operatives from Assam are still on the prowl, sources pointed out.
Meanwhile, a team of Assam Police has left for Kanpur to question Qamar uj Zama, who was arrested by the Anti Terrorism Squad of the Uttar Pradesh Police on Thursday based on a tip-off from the National Investigation Agency.
A team of Assam will get in touch with the UP Police and try to acquire relevant information about the other operatives, sources said.
Zamas name as a Hijbul Mujahideen operative first surfaced after he posted his photograph with an AK47 rifle in a social networking site in April this year.
As a follow-up action, we have arrested one Shahnawaj Alam, who was in constant touch with Zama, another Assam Police source said.
Sources added that these misguided youths mostly get trained either in militant camps in Jammu and Kashmir or in Pakistan.
