SILCHAR, Dec 31: With only one day left for submitting claims and objections for the National Register of Citizens (NRC), more than 1.5 lakh people have submitted their claims so far, Cachar Deputy Commissioner Dr S Laxmanan said.
"As per the directions of the Supreme Court, the last date of submissions of claims and objections from applicants was extended till December 31, 2018. There were sufficient awareness drives and campaigns in the past few months to reach out to the people whose names were missing from the draft list and we have received more than 1.5 lakh applicants from across all the NSKs across the district with their claims so far," Laxmanan told The Assam Tribune.
"We are continuously updating the details on the corresponding software. However, there is no available update on the number of applications filed as objections as yet," Laxmanan said on Sunday.
Sources said that around 2.28 lakh people in Cachar district were left out from the complete draft of the NRC published on July 31 this year.
