More infrastructure in Dibrugarh to accommodate Covid patients

DIBRUGARH, July 22 - In view of the surge in the number of COVID-19 positive cases in the district, the district administration here has been building up its infrastructure for more testing and treatment of positive cases.

Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha told newsmen here that steps have been taken to increase the capacity of beds to 200 in the under construction Covid Care Centre in Khanikar near here. �In order to cater to more patients, we are arranging more beds and preparing isolation wards in Naharkatia SDCH, Chabua, Lengeri and Tengakhat model hospitals. We are also seeking to establish revenue circle-wise Covid Care Centres too,� he said.

Meanwhile, DHSK Girl�s Hostel, MDK Girl�s College Hostel and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Moran have been converted into Covid Care Centres where some 207 patients have already been kept under observation till date. Some of the local hotels serving as quarantine centres will also be converted into Covid Care Centres for the asymptomatic patients. �Further, we are also in touch with some of the nursing homes for commencement of paid Covid care here like Guwahati,� said DC.

About the symptomatic and severe patients, DC said that those with COVID-19 symptoms were kept in Assam Medical College and Hospital, Jokai Model Hospital and Lezai Kalakowa Model Hospital.

In order to increase COVID-19 screening in the town, he said that infrastructures have been built to set up more testing centres in the town. COVID-19 screening will also be started soon in the nursing homes here, he said.

Meanwhile, another 49 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected on Wednesday in the district till this afternoon. The highest number of cases came from Graham Bazar area with 26 altogether. The other areas included Loharpatty, Paltan Bazaar, PN Road, Urovision Hospital, etc.
