By Correspondent

TURA, July 13 - East Garo Hills Police today made another huge recovery of arms and ammunition hidden by the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) and its now deceased commander-in-chief, Sohan D Shira, in the district.

Over the past few months, the police began an extensive search for hidden arms and ammunition, stashed away in different locations across the Simsang river by Shira. Earlier also, huge caches of arms and ammunition were recovered with the assistance of local villagers who had alerted the police.

The recovery today was made at Bawegre and Dorengkegre villages. The police search teams recovered the arms and ammo after leads were provided by villagers, said East Garo Hills SP Ringrang TG Momin. More and more villagers are coming forward to help the police in recovering the hidden weapons which would pose a serious threat to the safety of the people if they fell into wrong hands, he added.

According to police inputs, there are still more arms and ammunition hidden in many locations by the GNLA and some may even have been taken away by miscreants who were aware of the spots where the weapons lay hidden.
