More facilities at Dibrugarh varsity sought

By Staff Correspondent

DIBRUGARH, June 4 - The Post Graduate Students Union (PGSU) of Dibrugarh University has expressed dissatisfaction with the overall infrastructure facilities and academic environment of the varsity.

The students body has regretted that some of the basic requirements like health services, transportation, hostels and security were still partial, limited and inadequate in the fifty-year- old varsity.

Highlighting that two-third of the students were compelled to stay in private hostels outside the campus due to insufficient in-campus hostels, the students union said that travel, security and finance was causing major problems to the out stationed students.

The outstation students are unable to attend classes in time as they were dependent on public transport. They are compelled to pay irrational travel fares to reach the University. The students are also subject to harassment and intimidation by outsiders.

Moreover, majority of these out stationed students do not have access to Ambulances service whenever in need, according to the leaders of the PGSU.

In view of the above facts, the students body of the varsity has requested the Vice Chancellor to provide bus services and at least two Ambulance services for the out-stationed students. In a memorandum submitted to the Vice Chancellor, the PGSU has also demanded deployment of trained women security personnel within the campus.
