More arrests in Ghosh murder case

MANGALDAI, Sept 26 � The Darrang Police have arrested two more robbers directly involved in the sensational killing of eminent lawyer-cum-businessman Binoy Kumar Ghosh and recovered several looted articles and seized the mini truck used in the robbery and killing.

Acting on a tip-off, the police team headed by Additional Superintendent of Police (headquarter) Diganta Chowdhury conducted a raid in Kharupetia area of the district on Wednesday night and arrested absconding accused Saidul Islam (25), son of Amzad Ali of Ghansimalu village under Kharupetia Police Station and seized the Tata Ace mini truck bearing registration number AS 13 C 1158 owned and driven by him. On the same night, the police arrested another accused Akbar Ali, alias Ali Azgar (26), son of Munnaf Ali of village No 2 Baigarmari under Dhula Police Station who was taking shelter in a remote char area under Sipajhar Police Station. The police also recovered a cash amount of Rs 20,000 , several currency notes of US dollars, ancient coins, gold jewellery, spectacles, valuable wrist watches used by late Binoy Kumar Ghosh from their possession. Both the arrested accused have confessed their involvement in the robbery and killing of the lawyer. The Officiating Officer in Charge of Mangaldai Police Station, Ananta Das and the investigating officer, Sub Inspector Twinkle Goswami also took part in the operation.

Talking to media persons, Darrang SP Vivek Raj Singh assured that all the criminals involved in the case would be booked within a short period. Earlier, the police had arrested two criminals involved in the incident and recovered an amount of Rs 25,000.
