GUWAHATI, Dec 14 - Police have arrested seven more persons involved in the illegal gambling racket in the city.
Hatigaon police conducted raids at Khanka and Sijubari and arrested four persons identified as Jabed Ali, Rinku Sheikh, Rafiqul Islam and Jaharul Islam, said ACP (Basistha) Mousumi Kalita, adding that all the accused hail from Dhubri. A case has been registered against the four under the Assam Gambling and Betting Act, 1970.
Raids were also conducted today at Bishnu Rabha Path, Lalmati and Beltola areas from where three more persons were caught. They were identified as Babul Ray of Basistha, Kritanjan Kalita of Patacharkuchi and Sanju Sarma of Hajo. Dispur police had yesterday caught six persons involved in teer gambling.
A special drive has been launched in the city since Tuesday against illegal gambling.
