DOOMDOOMA , May 21 - The All Moran Students� Union (AMSU) will intensify its struggle for ST status and self-rule as per the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. The general council meeting of the students� body held at Marwari Panchayati Bhawan here on Saturday adopted a few resolutions in this regard.
The meeting chaired by AMSU president Arunjyoti Moran expressed deep resentment over the passive role of the State government regarding accordance of ST status and self-rule to the Morans. The meeting adopted a resolution demanding the �Group of Ministers� formed by the State government to give a positive and clear report within the month of May. In another resolution, the students� body demanded asked the State and the Union government to take an immediate decision on this matter.
Moreover, the meeting also adopted resolutions demanding the government to issue land pattas to the Morans without premium, to construct the Dirak-Sumani dam in a scientific method, to take preventive measures to check the erosion in Kordoiguri region and to rehabilitate the flood and erosion-affected people, to start classes in the newly set-up ITIs at Dirak and Ledo, to provincialise the science stream of Doomdooma College and to set up a Women�s College at Doomdooma etc.
The meeting was inaugurated by the advisor of AMSU Dipan Moran while AMSU general secretary Naba Moran explained its objectives. Besides, over 300 delegates from across the State, the meeting was also attended by Moran Sahitya Sabha president Tarun Baruah Moran, Asom Moran Sabha general secretary Dharmendra Neog, Moran Jatiya Karmachari Saikhik Bikash Mancha Someswar Moran and several others.
