Moran community can take Assam forward globally: CM

DIGBOI, June 1 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at Tingrai here today said the Moran people have the potential to render a meaningful contribution for the cultural growth of Assam and to take the State forward globally with its distinct outlook and abilities.

Sonowal was addressing the people here at Tingrai Auditorium as the chief guest on the second day of the Central Conference of Assam Moran Sabha which kicked off on Friday.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Suren Phukan, Digboi MLA, Bolin Chetiya, Sadiya MLA and other dignitaries and leaders of the Moran community on the dais.

Sonowal lauded the persistent effort of various Moran organisations, including the Moran Students� Union, the Moran Mahila Parishad and the Assam Moran Sabha for their roles in creating awareness among the people of the community over a period of time on different issues.

He urged the people of the community, particularly the youths and students, to equip themselves well with technical and other skills for taking their community forward.

Citing the roles of the former Moran leaders, social workers and patriots, including Bir Raghav Moran and Sarbananda Singha, Sonowal urged the present generation to follow the ideals and imbibe in them the virtues of the ancestors to live in peace and harmony.

�Without following the paths adopted by the former leaders, the youths cannot achieve much in the present time,� remarked the Chief Minister, appreciating the people of the Moran community, and termed it �unique� among all the communities inhabiting the Barak and Brahmaputra valleys in Assam.

The Government of Assam has already initiated several steps to help the community come forward and prosper, Sonowal added.

Several literary, cultural and creative competitions were also being organised on the occasion.
