Moran bodies criticise State govt for neglecting their problems

By Correspondent

DOOMDOOMA, Feb 8 - Six organisations of Moran tribe, namely, Asam Moran Sabha (AMS), All Moran Students Union (AMSU0), Sadou Moran Kala-Sanskriti Vikash Kendra (SMKSVK), Moran Jatiya Mohila Parishad (MJMP), Moran Jatitya Karmachari Saikhik Vikash Mancha (MJSVM) and Moran Sahitya Sabha (MSS) on Wednesday held a joint meeting at Rupai Siding near here.

The organisations strongly criticized Sonowal-led State government for neglecting the problems of the Moran tribe.

Addressing a press conference after the meeting on Wednesday evening, AMSU president Arunjyoti Moran said that before the election Sarbananda Sonowal and his party had shown much interest in according ST status to the Moran tribe along with five other tribes of the State. But after assuming power, he completely turned a blind eye to the matter. The student leader also alleged that the present State government has failed to show any goodwill to solve the problems of the State. In the last State Budget, the government announced the project of Bir Raghab Moran Cultural Centre. But that announcement is yet to be materialised, Moran alleged.

In protest against the governments negligence, all the six organisations of the tribe have decided to stage a sit-in-demonstration in front at Dispur Last Gate on February 12. If the government fails to meet their demands, they will go for a strong democratic agitation, informed the leaders of the six organisations present in the press conference.
