MUSHALPUR, June 11 � Many villages of Barama, Alagjar, Kaljar and adjoining areas in Baksa and Nalbari districts were inundated due to a breach on the western embankment along the Mora Pagladiya river on Wednesday. The Barama-Barbari Road, business establishments, private residences, Barama Army Camp and many educational institutions were submerged by the floodwaters. Paddy fields continued to remain under water due to incessant rainfall.
Educational institutions in flood-affected areas remained closed on Wednesday. Moreover, due to the incomplete Barama-Baksa State highway, some parts of Nikashi were also submerged, forcing the local residents to vacate their houses.
Meanwhile, over 50 villages under the Defeli, Pub-Baksa and Kumarikata mouzas of Tamulpur subdivision in Baksa district have been inundated by the Puthimari, Baralia, Balti, Motonga and Daranga rivers. Paddy fields were submerged, causing damage to the crops. Many important roads have also been damaged by the flood.
