IMPHAL, June 1 - A sudden flash flood caused by heavy rain swept away two minor children while they are playing on the bank of a river in Manipurs Churachandpur district headquarters, 75 km from here on Thursday.

The incident occurred when the water level of Lanva river, which passes through Churachandpur town, suddenly increased at around 2 pm today, reports said.

The body of four year-old boy K Lianlunmang was recovered from the river, while whereabouts of his younger sister Kimngaihsiam is not known. Search is still on till the report goes to the press.

Jessami villagers in Ukhrul district are also searching for a person missing in yesterdays flash flood. On Tuesday night, 35 year-old Ayetselo Wezah of Jessami village was washed away when the water level of Thesii river increased all of a sudden.

Even as water level of major rivers in Manipur particularly Imphal river is receding, several houses and standing crops continue to remain submerged particularly in Mayang Imphal in Imphal West district, Thoubal, Sekmaijin in Thoubal and Hiyanglam in Kakching districts.

Many villages in Ukhrul district remain cut off from the rest of the State after the road connecting Lunghar and Shirui villages was washed away by rain on Wednesday.
