By Correspondent

JORABAT, Nov 3 - Prof JS Patil, Vice Chancellor of National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam, on Saturday inaugurated a moot court at the University School of Law and Research, University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM).

Prof Patil delivered a talk on Human rights and human values in the light of the Constitution. The function was attended by USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque, principal adviser to the USTM, Dr Mridul Hazarika, and USTM VC Dr PK Goswami, apart from faculty members and students.

Prof Patil said the smart and excellent moot court at the USTM would help students practise and develop their mooting skills. He explained the concepts of rights, duty, liability and power in the context of law. According to Prof Patil, western philosophy is right-oriented, whereas eastern philosophy is duty-oriented. Human values are not reflected in human rights, they are rather reflected in duties, he stressed.

In his welcome address, the USTM Chancellor said the recent MoU with the National Law University would help in sharing resources, infrastructure and exchange of faculty and students between the two universities.

Dr Mridul Hazarika, who offered the vote of thanks, said that it was the need of the hour to link values with business as the world is gradually becoming a business society.
