Monsoon fruit fest

GUWAHATI, Aug 24 � The fifth Monsoon Fruit Festival, a joint venture between Foundation X-Mas India and Rotary Club of Gauhati West, was celebrated at the Cotton Collegiate Govt HS School campus on Saturday.

Children were offered apples, bananas and sweet limes in the festival.

Principal of the school, P Deka presided over the opening ceremony where Haidar Hussain, editor-in-chief Asomiya Pratidin was the chief guest. In his speech, Hussain spoke on the role of parents in the upbringing of children.

Prof Nalini Medhi of Handique Girls� College elaborated on the benefits of fruit eating. Prof Nilima Bhagabati of Gauhati University also attended the event among others, a press release said.

Dr Dibakar Kalita, chairman of Foundation X-Mas India and a member of RCGW, underscored the need for avoiding fast food and switch to fruits instead for a healthy lifestyle.
