Monitoring Committee formed in Cachar

SILCHAR, March 13 - Cachar Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri said that political parties or candidates must obtain prior certification from the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC), which is mandatory, to issue political advertisements in the print and electronic media.

Madduri held a meeting with officials and media professionals on Tuesday and formed the MCMC in connection with the ensuing Lok Sabha election 2019, polling for which would be held in Silchar on April 18.

ADC Rajib Roy, Election Officer Sudip Nath, District Media Expert NRHM Suman Choudhury, veteran journalist Jyoti Lal Choudhury and Ritesh Pathak, news in-charge at All India Radio Silchar are a part of the media monitoring committee.

�The meeting primarily focuses on paid news and political advertisements. The committee constituted will be responsible for certification of advertisements, monitoring of news in the print and electronic media and keeping records of all election-related news of candidates in the fray,� she said. She added that on the poll day and also on the eve of polling, advertisements in the print media will also be verified.
