By Correspondent

AGARTALA, Feb 10 A three-member team of NEEPCO headed by its Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) IP Barooah on Saturday met Tripura Power Minister Manik Dey and discussed the fate of the proposed 104 MW power plant at Monarchak in West Tripura district.

Though the Power Minister declined to reveal anything on the discussion, sources claimed the State Government has asked the NEEPCO to execute the power project at the earliest.

At the meeting, Barooah briefed the Power Minister about the NEEPCOs bid to get clearance from the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) through Public Investment Board (PIB). The Power Minister assured that the State Government will render all possible help to NEEPCO so that the project could get operational as early as possible.

The estimated project cost which was pegged at Rs 390 crores has been hiked to Rs 608 crore due to unavoidable delays in executing the project, said a NEEPCO official on condition of anonymity.

The NEEPCO expects to get the CCEA clearance by April as the revised cost estimates and the draft PIB note is being prepared for submission to the Ministry of Power.

Recently, Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde informed Chief Minister Manik Sarkar that the Ministry of Power was trying hard to expedite the project.
