DIBRUGARH, April 17 - In order to mark the birth centenary celebration of the late Marshal of the Indian Air Force, Arjan Singh DFC, the Air Force Station, located at Mohanbari here organised a half marathon run under various categories by distance (21, 15, 10, 5 kms) and by age (up to 35 years of age and above 35 years of age) on April 14, a release stated.
The marathon run named as �Centenary Run� was primarily conducted to pay rich tribute to the legendary Marshal and also to propagate the accomplishments of the IAF amongst all Air Force personnel. Some 466 runners including air warriors, women and children participated in the �Centenary Run�. The race was flagged off by the Station Commander, Air Force Station, Mohanbari.
The Marshal of the Indian Air Force Arjan Singh had commanded the IAF during the 1965 Indio-Pak war. He was elevated to the rank of Air Chief Marshal on January 15, 1966 and also happened to be the first Air Chief Marshal of the Indian Air Force. He had received the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) in 1944.
Station Commander, Air Force Station Mohanbari while flagging off the run, told the rank and file of the Station to emulate the footprints set by the MIAF and follow his four simple rules in daily life i.e., firstly, we should be thorough in our profession; secondly, we should complete the job at hand to the satisfaction of everyone; thirdly, we must have implicit faith in our subordinates; and lastly, our efforts should be honest and sincere. If we follow these four principles, we would never be wrong. The Commander motivated air warriors to inculcate camaraderie and sportsmanship attributes. He also emphasised the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle and encouraged the air warriors towards fitness and sports activities.
The air warriors also took the pledge to leave no stone unturned to carry on with the legacy of the Marshal of the Indian Air Force, Arjan Singh DFC for the glory of Indian Air Force, the release added.
