Mohan Bhawariya Award for Sitanath Ray

NALBARI, Dec 15 � Renowned folk artist Sitanath Ray of Gauripur in Dhubri district has been selected for the Mohan Bhawariya award of 2010. The award instituted by the Nalbari district unit of AASU and Nalbari Zilla Unnati Sabha is given to a renowned folk artist of the State. In 2009, the award for the first time was given to �Dholar Rani� Punya Prabha Dutta Tamuli of Jorhat district.

Declaring the name of this year�s Mohan Bhawariya award recipient in a press meet at Nalbari AASU office, Himan Barman and Ratul Deka, president and secretary of Nalbari district unit of AASU respectively said that the award will be presented to the artist at a function to be held at Nalbari Natya Mandir on December 17. AASU adviser Dr Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya has consented to atend the award giving ceremony.

It may be mentioned here that folk artist Sitanath Ray had played �Sarengda� with renowned singer Pratima Pande. His performance in this field was highly praised at the national level also.

The Mohan Bhawariya award consists of Rs 10,000, a citation along with a certificate.
