GUWAHATI, Sept 1 - The 20th Mofizuddin Ahmed Hazarika Literary Fest 2020 and celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of Gyanmalini Kobi Mofizuddin Ahmed Hazarika concluded on August 31 with an online function organised by Maria�s Public School here, said a press release today.
Maria�s founder and managing trustee Nellie Ahmed Tanweer who is also the granddaughter of the poet, announced that this year being the 150th birth anniversary of the Gyanmalini Kobi, it has been decided to institute the Mofizuddin Ahmed Hazarika Memorial Kavya Award, to be conferred on an eminent poet annually by her.
The first recipient of the award is Dr Nilima Thakuria Haque who is a renowned poet and artist and has many literary contributions to her credit. Although the award ceremony was scheduled to be held at the Guwahati Press Club on the August 30, it has been postponed to a later date due to the pandemic situation.
The managing trustee announced another award for the most creative literary work from a vernacular medium school which will be effective from next year.
Award recipient Dr Haque sent a video message to the platform wherein she welcomed the gesture and spoke about the insightful themes of the Gyanmalini Kobi�s poems.
The other speakers at the function were Anis Uz Zaman, president of the MAH Memorial Committee; Dr Anil Kr Goswami, retired principal of Cotton College and chairman of Maria�s Educational Trust; Dr Mafuza Rahman, retired HoD, Geography, Cotton University and Dr K Zaman Ahmed and Asad Zaman, grandsons of the Gyanmalini Kobi.
The results of the online inter-school and intra-school literary competitions were also declared on the same platform, the release added.
