By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 24 - Prime Minister Narendra Modi today assured that the dream which the people cherished by giving a decisive mandate in Assam to the new Government would be turned into a reality with utmost support from the Centre.

Modi said that the Centre would act hand-in-hand with the State to accelerate the pace of development and make Assam the focal point of developmental activities in India.

In fact, if the State takes one step towards development, the Centre would take two, Modi said addressing the tens of thousands of people who gathered to witness the swearing-in ceremony of the Sarbananda Sonowal-led new council of ministers at the College of Veterinary Science playground here this evening.

Assam has the potential to not only emerge as one of the most developed States but it can also improve the growth index of many other States of the country, Modi said. The State, I feel, has the potential to inspire the nation as a whole in many ways, he stated.

Appreciating Sonowal, Modi said that Sonowal has the right spirit to take Assam forward. I am confident that he will leave no stone unturned to change the fortune of Assam and will make optimum use of time, the Prime Minister said.

The Centre believes in cooperative federalism and thus empowering the States is always in given topmost priority. We at the Centre would work in tandem with the State and ensure that there would be no paucity of any kind, Modi added.

He opined that for the balance growth of India, growth of Assam or for that matter the eastern region is a must. The Act East policy is a step towards that mission, he added.
