Modi utterings blatant lies: Gogoi

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 29 - Leader of the Assam Congress Legislative Party (ACLP) and Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today countered Prime Minister Narendra Modis age-related remark against him stating that such remarks have made him 10 years younger.

It is an insult to the people of Assam. Such a person (Modi) has no respect for seniors. We have seen it in the past with people like LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi and other senior BJP leaders, Gogoi said.

At a press conference here this morning, Gogoi further said that Modis allegation on the Congress governments financial misrule has no basis at all. There was no truth in what the latter had said on the misappropriation of funds... The amount Modi has quoted was not even received by us. Unlike what he had said, the CAG did not mention about any misuse of funds in its report, Gogoi said.

All that the CAG report pointed out was some correction issues and nothing more than that, he said, adding, If there was misappropriation in such a large scale, how come the development works took shape in the State? These are blatant lies which the Prime Minister is uttering.

Gogoi quipped: Is he trying to say that the situation was better in Assam before 2001?

There should be a limit to false propaganda in politics, he said. I have never seen a Prime Minister who speaks so many lies. And if he is so concerned about the State, why did he withdrew the special category status, he added.

On one hand, he tries to paint Assam as an underdeveloped state and on the other hand, he had withdrawn the special category status indirectly meaning that the State has come out of that phase. He is contradicting himself, Gogoi rued.

Gogoi also criticised BJP national president Amit Shah alleging that he too is playing the same record of misutlisation of funds without any firm basis.
