Modi to arrive in Imphal on April 7 for poll campaign

IMPHAL, April 2 - Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive in Imphal on April 7 to take part in BJP�s election campaign in Manipur.

Modi will address a BJP rally in Imphal�s Hapta Kangjeibung where AICC president Rahul Gandhi had recently launched his party�s election campaign in the State on March 20.

The BJP has already begun mobilisation of people so that maximum number of people attends the rally.

The scheduled visit of the Prime Minister in the State is the second time this year. He had visited the State on January 4 last.

BJP has fielded its nominees in both the Parliamentary constituencies of Manipur.

The elections for the two seats in the State will be held on April 11 (for Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary constituency) and April 18 (for the Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency).

The BJP has fielded Houlim Shokhopao Mate alias Benjamin Mate in the Outer Lok Sabha constituency and Dr RK Ranjan in the Inner constituency.

The party considers Congress as its main rival even though other parties including its partners in the coalition government have fielded their candidates in the ensuing elections. Meanwhile, police have stepped up security in the State, particularly in Imphal, ahead of Prime Minister�s visit to the State.
