Modi to address two poll rallies in State today

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 29 - Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hit the campaign trail in the State tomorrow for the ruling BJP by addressing public rallies at Moran and Gohpur.

The Prime Minister will attend a party rally at Moran at 12.50 pm and then another at Gohpur at 2.50 pm.

Modi will campaign for the BJPs Dibrugarh candidate, Rameswar Teli, at Moran and for the partys Tezpur nominee, Pallab Lochan Das, at Gohpur.

Both Dibrugarh and Tezpur constituencies will go to polls in the second phase of the Parliamentary election on April 18.

Modi will be accompanied by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, NEDA convener Himanta Biswa Sarma, State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass and other senior BJP leaders at both places.

Both Dibrugarh and Tezpur constituencies are likely to witness a direct fight between the BJP and the Congress. The BJP had won both the seats in the 2014 general election.

The Congress has nominated former State Additional Chief Secretary MGVK Bhanu as its candidate for the Tezpur constituency and former Union minister and senior party leader Paban Singh Ghatowar for the Dibrugarh seat.

The countrys economy has grown by over seven per cent during Prime Minister Modis term in office. The NDA Government has brought in an era of security and stability to the country. Modi is our partys face in the Lok Sabha polls. Development of the North East has been the first priority for Modi since the day he assumed office. So the people of Assam and the North East will really want to hear about his vision for this region directly from his mouth. The leadership of Modi and the strategy of our party president Amit Shah are our twin winning formula, State BJP spokesperson Pramod Swamy said.

Modis visit will come close on the heels of BJP president Amit Shahs visit to Assam. Shah had addressed rallies at Kaliabor and Teok yesterday.

Biswanath Chariali Correspondent adds: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will start his campaign for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections by addressing an election rally at Barani Pathar under Gohpur subdivision in Biswanath district on Saturday. Massive arrangements are being made for the meeting. A helipad has also been constructed at the rally site.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal visited the rally site today and took stock of the preparations for Modis meeting. He was accompanied by ministers Ranjt Dutta and Nava Kumar Doley.
