LUMDING, Sept 12 - The second convention of the Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU) of undivided Nagaon district was held at Lumding on September 10 in the presence of a large number of members, delegates from different parts of the State including the members of locality. In this connection, an open meeting was held at the Children�s Park, Lumding.
The purpose of the meeting was explained by Jagneswar Das, secretary. The resource person Tapan Sharma, secretary, Assam State CITU, bitterly criticised the new financial policy of the Modi Government which has given rise to corruption, increasing number of unemployed youths, poverty, soaring price-rise and death of a good number of peasants, majority of whom committed suicide due to financial hardship and shortage of food.
Further, he said that demonetisation helped the black money holders to convert their money into white. Financially, India is lagging behind due to new policy of present Government. He also said that as a result of GST, lower and middle class businessmen or traders are suffering. The Government is striking on the fundamental rights of the general people including peasants, labour-class people and small traders. In this context, he urged the people to protest unitedly against the policy of the Government. Sharma�s speech was followed by the conventional meet at �Gobinda Bhawan� in the evening where the flag was hoisted by Bikram Tosa, president of undivided Nagaon district. The Inaugural speech was given by Indrajit Bezbaruah. The purpose of the meeting was explained by Jagneswar Das, general secretary of the undivided Nagaon district unit.
Two new committees were formed as the Nagaon district was divided in two parts. The Hojai committee was formed with GP Chakraborty as the president, Jagneswar Das as secretary and Khirode Bhattacharjee as the treasurer, while the Nagaon committee was formed with Bikram Tosa as president, Madhu Mandal as secretary and Nayan Chakraborty as the tresaurer.
