Modi assures help to Baghjan people

GUWAHATI, June 18 - Prime Minister Narendra Modi today assured all possible steps to help and rehabilitate the people affected by the Baghjan blowout and blaze.

After reviewing the situation in Baghjan through video conference, Modi said the Centre would do whatever is needed in this time of crisis. The video conference was held under the aegis of the National Disaster Response Authority.

�I am with the people of Baghjan at this hour of crisis,� a press statement quoting the Prime Minister stated.

Earlier, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal apprised the Prime Minister of the situation in Baghjan following the gas well blowout and blaze.

Sonowal also requested the Prime Minister to upgrade the petroleum technology department of Dibrugarh University so as to create a pool of experts to effectively mitigate disasters related to the oil industry.

Those present in the video conference also included Union Home Minister, Agriculture Minister, Petroleum Minister, Environment and Forest Minister and DoNER Minister.
