Mock polling station set up

By Correspondent

GOALPARA, March 21 - A mock polling station was opened at the DCs office premises yesterday as part of Systematic Voters' Education Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activities to facilitate the use of EVMs and the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) which has been introduced for the first time in elections.

Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka while inaugurating the mock model polling station said that such an exercise will make people familiar with EVM and VVPAT and to spread awareness among voters to ensure that no voters is left out.

Deka further appealed to all the voters including the newly-enrolled ones to come forward in large numbers to cast their mock votes for awareness and familiarisation with the voting machines in particular with the VVPAT. Talking to this correspondent, she said that such activities will be replicated in some of the colleges and in a few public places across the district so that voters can familiarise themselves with the set-up of the polling station and get to know about the proper voting procedures and use of machines.
