By Staff Correspondent

SHILLONG, Oct 30 - Mock drills on earthquake disaster management will be conducted in all districts of the State tomorrow. The Army, Air Force, National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response team will take part in them.

VK Naik, senior consultant of the National Disaster Management Authority, said that the exercise would be conducted in all the 11 districts of Meghalaya simultaneously.

We will later collate the feedback from the exercise so that we can learn and improve upon it, Naik said after a meeting held here to chalk out a plan for the mock drills.

He said the Army and the Air Force would join this exercise and a post-earthquake situation would be simulated. A mock drill will be held at Polo in East Khasi Hills. The Deputy Commissioners of different districts will identify the areas in their respective districts to hold the mock drills in tomorrows exercise, Naik said.

This is also for the first time that the Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Force would cooperate with the district authorities for the drills.

School syllabuses now have extensive chapters on what to do during disasters. Moreover, several awareness programmes are being held throughout the country on disaster management and risk mitigation, the NDMA consultant pointed out.
