Mobile Lok Adalat flagged off

SHILLONG, May 19 (PTI): Meghalaya High Court Chief Justice Uma Nath Singh today flagged off a mobile Lok Adalat which is aimed at providing easy access to justice for the people in remote and inaccessible areas.

Lauding the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) for the service, Justice Singh said the State�s Legal Services Authority was one of the best legal services authorities in the country.

The multi utility van was one of the achievements of the MSLSA and it was rated as one of the best initiatives taken up in the country, he said.

He appealed to all the members of the bar association to come up for the cause and participate in the movement of providing free legal aid and legal awareness to the people.

Stating that a large section of society are unaware of their rights and legal services available to them, Justice TNK Singh said it was necessary for the MSLSA to reach out to the people, especially the marginalised and weaker sections in remote areas.

Mentioning about the purpose of the Mobile Lok Adalat Van, Singh said that it would provide people with free legal aid, free service of capable lawyers.

The mobile Lok Adalat van has all necessary requirement of the courts, like separate compartments for presiding officers, separate room for lawyers fitted with generators and loud speakers.
