AIZAWL, Dec 3 � An irate mob ransacked the BRTF camp in Lawngtlai, a southern township in Mizoram on Wednesday, sources today said.
Lawngtlai police informed that about 300-strong group of youth came out protesting against the BRTF but suddenly some of the protestors rushed to the camp and burnt a mini bus and also damaged two other light vehicles.
The mob also entered into the camp and damaged properties and some camps. On learning of the incident, District Magistrate, Thlamuana, district SP Dinesh Kumar along with a police force rushed to the spot and prevented the mob from doing further damage.
The situation was brought under control by the police. Till Thursday, the camp was on guard by the police. The police source said the situation is under control and a case registered.
The misunderstanding between the BRTF personnel and the youths cropped up when one black marketeer who was buying fuel from a BRTF driver was beaten up in the BRTF camp last Monday night. Reports said there had been other instances where youths used to get beaten up in the BRTF camp.
