IMPHAL, April 18 - A mob targetted the residential compound of a Godly man late last night in which four-wheelers and other property worth over Rs 3 lakh were damaged by the locals at Wangkhei Hijam Leirak area here, the police said.
The attack on the compound of the revered man, Hijam Ratan (47), occurred as a result of an alleged accumulation of wealth mostly by his followers in the name of religion, the police said.
The man is considered as �Panthou�, a saintly man with spiritual powers, by the locals.
A large number of police personnel led by Additional SP of Imphal East are now guarding the complex. � PTI
