Mob attacks court in Mizoram town

AIZAWL, Sept 22 - An angry mob attacked a district court in southern Mizoram town Lunglei today with stones and ransacked the court room and also the district magistrate�s house.

Around 10:30 am today, residents of Zohnuai locality in Lunglei surrounded the court of district magistrate Malsawmdawngzuala demanding to see a murder accused Stephen, who had allegedly killed a resident of the locality recently.

For the safety of the accused, the authority arranged a camp court in the district jail. Angered by this, the mob started attacking the court building with stones and ransacked the court room, damaging furniture and computers.

Sources from Lunglei said, the mob then proceeded to the magistrate�s residence and damaged property including furniture, TV set and computer set. The mob also stole the mobile phone of the magistrate�s wife.

Several people received minor injuries during the scuffle between police and the mob.
