AIZAWL, Nov 6 - The Mizo National Front-Hmar Peoples Convention alliance has won the first elections to the Sinlung Hills Council held yesterday.
Riding a pro-incumbency wave, the MNF-HPC combine won five seats each in the 12-seat council while the remaining two seats were won by Independent candidates. Altogether 42 candidates were in the fray.
The Sinlung Hills Council was constituted following a peace agreement signed between the Mizoram Government and the then outlawed Hmar Peoples Convention-Democratic (HPC-D) in March 2018.
The ruling MNF and the HPC had forged a pre-poll alliance and chalked out a seat-sharing formula with the MNF contesting in seven seats and the HPC in five seats.
