MNF, HPC celebrate victory in Sinlung Council polls

By Newmai news

AIZAWL, Nov 13 - Mizoram Chief Minister and Mizo National Front (MNF) president Zoramthanga today said that his Government would work hard to usher in development in the Hmar-dominated areas under the Sinlung Hills Council. He was speaking at an event to celebrate the victory of the MNF and the Hmar Peoples Convention (HPC) in the maiden Council elections, at Sakawrdai village.

In the election to the Sinlung Hills Council held on November 5, the MNF-HPC alliance registered a thumping victory by bagging 10 out of the 12 seats. The rest two seats were wrested by Independent candidates.

Zoramthanga expressed satisfaction over the smooth completion of the first election to the Council after more than 20 years of formation of an interim council. He said that the Government would extend all possible help to the Council. Focus will be on building roads, government offices, education and healthcare facilities, he added.

The three-time Chief Minister appealed to the people to develop positive thinking to develop the entire State, besides the Sinlung Hills Council areas.

Mizoram Assembly Speaker, Lalrinliana Sailo, who attended the event as the guest of honour, urged the newly-elected members of the Sinlung Council to make concerted efforts so that development could reach every corner of the area.
