MLAs, MPs appeal for a solution to Naga political problem

KOHIMA, Dec 8 - MLAs, MPs and former lawmakers of Nagaland on Thursday appealed for a solution to the vexed Naga political problem before the State Assembly elections due early next year.

The MLAs and MPs along with ex-MLAs and former MPs made the appeal during a closed door consultative meeting called by Nagaland Speaker Imtiwapang Aier, at the Regional Centre of Excellence in Music and Performing Arts, Jotsoma.

A copy of the resolution passed in the meeting said the lawmakers placed on record their deep sense of appreciation for all the positive steps taken by Government of India (GoI) and the stakeholders so far in seeking to arrive at an honourable and acceptable solution to the Naga political issue.

�Urges the GoI and other stakeholders engaged in dialogue to resolve the issue well before the next State Assembly elections�, they resolved.

The MLAs and MPs also appealed to Election Commission of India to conduct the elections to the Nagaland Assembly only after an honourable and acceptable solution is reached with regard to the vexed Naga political issue, the resolution said.

They also urged the members of the present Assembly to pass resolution on similar lines during the ensuing winter session, scheduled for December 14 and 15, it said.

Today�s resolution was appended by Nagaland Speaker, Chief Minister TR Zeliang and president of Ex-Parliamentarians Association of Nagaland, T Khongo. � PTI
