MLAs for House session deferment

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 15 - A number of legislators have asked the Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly to postpone the Summer Session of the House, which is scheduled to commence from July 18, in view of the prevailing flood situation in the State.

Sources said that many MLAs have cited the ongoing devastation caused by floods and said that they are busy with relief activities in their respective constituencies.

The legislators have also cited disruption in connectivity at various places, while seeking postponement of the Session.

Sources added that the Speaker has conveyed the MLAs request to the Chief Minister and called upon the latter to take up the matter with Governor, Prof Jagdish Mukhi.

The Assembly can only be summoned by the Governor and any decision to postpone the session can also be taken only by the Governor.
