MLA visits flood, erosion-hit areas

MIRZA, March 17 � Parliamentary Secretary (Education) and MLA, Chhaygaon LAC, Rekibuddin Ahmed, on Monday visited the flood and erosion-hit areas of Palasbari, Hajo LACs in Kamrup and Barkshetri LAC in Nalbari district. The MLA also conducted a detailed survey of the erosion-hit villages of Futuri, Bardia, Bardia NC, Bhatkhowadia villages under Palasbari LAC and Borsulia, Siyalmari villages of Barkshetri LAC travelling a distance of over 12 km through engine-fitted county boats along the Brahmaputra river and another 10 km by motorcycles.

The MLA also interacted with the flood and erosion-hit families and took stock of the situation before the onset of the monsoon this year and discussed with them the precautionary measures to be taken prior to the flooding season. The people apprised the MLA with the fact that over 200 families of Bardia, Bardia NC, Bhatkhowadia, Pagladia, Guimara and Simina villages under Palasbari LAC in Kamrup district have become homeless in the last two years after losing their land to the Brahmaputra river. They requested the MLA to take steps for launching anti-erosion measures in those areas as soon as possible.

Ahmed also visited the Kurihamari Borchar Milon ME Madrassa, a venture school, located at Borchar and interacted with the management, teachers and students of the school. The president of the madrassa, Ismail Hussain apprised Ahmed that the madrassa, which was set up in 1995, is the lifeline of the students in the Borchar area but it has not been provincialised till date and that 317 students on its rolls with eight teachers have been facing hardship due to non-provincialisation. Hussain requested the MLA to immediately take steps for provincialisation of the madrassa. The Parliamentary Secretary assured the school authorities of all help from the Government, including provincialisation. Ahmed also visited several venture schools including Siyalmari Kurihamari ME Madrassa, Kalitarpam Gaonburarpam LP School, Siyalmari Kalitarpam LP School ( both provincialised schools) and took stock of the educational scene in those schools. Later, Ahmed also visited the Siyalmari ME Madrassa and Siyalmari Anchalik High School and attended as the chief guest in the silver jubilee function of the two schools. The school authorities have requested him to take necessary steps for the provincialisation of the two schools.
