Mizoram to take back 462 Bru families

AIZAWL, April 29 � Following appeal by the Union Home Ministry, the Mizoram government has decided to take back 462 Bru families who fled the State in November last year, State Home Department officials today said.

Home Secretary Lalmalsawma and senior officials left for Mamit district on the Mizoram-Tripura border to discuss repatriation plans with deputy dommissioners and police officials as it was decided that the Bru families should return before May 15, the officials said.

Lalmalsawma said that the State government was trying to comply with the resquest of the Union Home Ministry to ensure the return of Bru families to their villages on or before May 15.

Once they returned, the repatriated Bru families would be provided with rehabilitation and resettlement packages and free rations by the government, he said.

Efforts to repatriate all the Bru refugees in six relief camps in North Tripura district were also under way, he said.

According to the 2009 voters list, there were around 3460 families in the relief camps comprising 12,538 voters, besides their children. � PTI
